Same wash, different shape

Not everyone wants a bar.

Some people like a bar of soap. Some people never have.

This is the same fermented kakishibu, in a bottle. It lathers over the whole body in one go and takes about as long as whatever you use now.

The cleansers are plant-derived and sulfate-free. Glycerin, trehalose and allantoin keep the skin soft once the persimmon has done its work.

Nothing about how it works changes, only how it feels in your hand.

Lather it on and leave it for about a minute, then rinse. That short pause gives the kakishibu time to work.
Why Kakiyu

It is not your hygiene. It is nonenal.

After 40, the skin makes a new oil called nonenal. It is not sweat, and it is not a hygiene problem. Water runs over it the way it runs over a greasy pan. An ordinary body wash does the same. Another shower changes nothing. Something has to cut the grease.

Kakishibu is the juice of unripe persimmons. The fruit is pressed green and left to ferment for months, until it turns deep amber. The tannin is the point, and it is what cuts the grease. The extract in this wash is the one in the bar, made by the traditional Japanese kakishibu method.

Persimmons ripen once a year. We press one harvest, and when it is gone, it is gone until the next autumn. Persimmon soap got popular, and the copycats came fast: orange bottles, persimmon fragrance, no fermentation. Fragrance is not fermented fruit. Kakishibu cannot be rushed, and we do not try.

The Kakiyu ritual

Three steps, once a day.

1. Warm water. A little works to a full lather.

2. Wash slowly. Let it reach the skin.

3. Rinse well. Daily.

Leave the lather on for about a minute before rinsing. Behind the ears and the back of the neck matter most.

What is inside.

Persimmon is strong, and on its own it leaves the skin tight. The rest of the bottle is there to keep it soft.

Questions, answered

Everything else you want to know.

Is this the same as the bar?
Same fermented kakishibu, doing the same job. The difference is the shape. A bottle covers the whole body in one go, and some people simply prefer it.
How long does one bottle last?
The bottle holds 10.1 fl oz (300 mL), about a month of daily showers. Use less than you think and it goes further.
What does it smell like?
Lightly scented. It rinses away, so it will not fight your perfume. If you have been burned by persimmon soaps that smell louder than the problem, this is the opposite of that.
Will it dry out sensitive skin?
It is built not to. Persimmon on its own is drying, so the rest of the formula puts moisture back: glycerin, trehalose and allantoin. The cleansers are plant-derived and sulfate-free. If your skin is very reactive, try it on your forearm for a day first. If it irritates, stop and write to us.
Where do I use it, and how long do I leave it on?
Once a day, in the shower. Start where nonenal builds up most: behind the ears, the back of the neck, chest, underarms and shoulders. Lather, leave it for about a minute, then rinse well. It is a body wash. Keep it out of your eyes.
What if it does not work for me?
Use it for 60 days. If you are not happy, email us and we refund you in full. A person answers at hello@kakiyucare.com, Monday to Friday.

I have never liked bar soap. Slippery, sits in a puddle, I hate it. This solved that and I still get the thing I bought it for.

One pump does my whole chest and back. The bar never reached my back properly.

It does not smell like a perfume, which I was glad about. It just smells clean.

I keep the bar for the sink and this for the shower. Between the two I stopped thinking about it.

My daughter ordered it after she visited. Awkward conversation, good result.
